CJP approves names of Justices Javed and Saqib |
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has approved the names of Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Saqib Nisar as heads of Osama Bin Laden Commission and Saleem Shahzad Commission respectively. Last Saturday the CJP was requested by the government to name the SC judges to head the two probe commissions. The government has earlier proposed these names to head the respective commissions. To probe the May 2 unilateral US Abboattabad raid that killed Osama Bin Laden the government had earlier constituted a five-member commission headed by SC Judge Justice Javed Iqbal in the light of the joint resolution passed in the in-camera session of the parliament. The commission conmprised as members Justice Fakhruddin G Ibrahim (retd), Lt Gen Ahmed (retd), Abbas Khan and Ashraf Jahangir Qazi. The government also proposed a 5-member commission headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar to probe the murder of journalist Saleem Shahzad. It's other members include Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmed Khan, the Chief Justice of the Federal Shariat Court, the Punjab Additional Inspector General (Investigation), the Federal Union of Journalists President and the Islamabad Deputy Inspector General of Police. |
