Smurfs fans set Guinness World Record

 Smurfs fans set Guinness World Record BRUSSELS: Fans of the Smurfs have set a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Smurfs, within a 24 hour period in multiple venues, on Global Smurfs Day. 4,891 fans from 11 different cities around the world set this record on Global Smurfs Day – June 25th.

Global Smurfs Day is the birthday of Peyo, the creator of the Smurfs. The story of the Smurfs, the little blue characters, first came out in 1958 as comic books, which were later adapted to both the big and small screens. Fans of the Smurfs turned up for the events dressed as Smurfs in white Smurf hats, white pants and shoes, and body painted blue.

Guinness World Records adjudicators confirmed that a total of 4,891 people came dressed as Smurfs in 11 locations simultaneously around the world, claiming a new title for Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Smurfs within a 24-hour Period in Multiple Venues. The earlier record was for 2,510 people dressed as Smurfs.

The 11 venues were Brussels, Belgium; Athens, Greece; Scheveningen (The Hague), Holland; Dublin, Ireland; Mexico City, Mexico; Panama City, Panama; Warsaw, Poland; Moscow, Russia; Johannesburg, South Africa; New York, USA; and London, UK
