 Fresh violence kills 5, hurts several in Karachi KARACHI: Fresh violence gripped Karachi on Friday, leaving 5 people dead and injuring several others in various firing incidents; meanwhile, arson incidents were also reported across the city.

According to the details, unidentified people torched two buses, one mini bus and a pickup, burning a man to death.

The situation in the metropolis started getting critical after the Iftar when an employee of port Qasim was shot dead outside his residence on Jehangir road.

In Sadar area, unidentified men opened fire, arson tyres, forced businessmen to shut their shops and suspended the traffic at Empress Market. Police and Rangers personnel reached the site soon after the incident and controlled the situation.

Police started search operation at Bohran Centre in Sadar.

Unidentified people also set a mini bus on fire at Nipa Chowrangi. Meanwhile, another bus was torched at Tower in which a person was burnt to death while injured people were taken to Civil Hospital.

A pick up vehicle was set ablaze near Kikhar Phatak in port Qasim. Another bus was torched near Metro Cinema in Orangi Town.

In Nazimabad, unidentified armed men open fire and hurled stones at cars near Board Office. Firing incident near Rabia City in Gulistan e Jauhar killed one man while business activities in the area were suspended soon after the incident.

Earlier, in another incident on Stadium road, unidentified gunmen signaled a tainted glass car to stop and opened indiscriminate, resultantly a man, identified as Shoaib, got killed on the spot while two men sustained injuries. Injured men were rushed to Jinnah Hospital.

In Adam Town, a man, identified as Mustafa was shot dead while another person Kashif hurt near Bi Amma Park who were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

A 50-year old political worker was also shot dead near private hospital on University Road in Ghulshan e Iqbal.

Head of Police in Karachi Saud Mirza said that the security has been beefed up across the metropolis in order to avoid any untoward incident before the strike to be observed on Saturday. Meanwhile, several people have been detained during the search operation in Sadar.
