Beached baby whale returned to ocean
BRISBANE: A baby humpback whale that stranded itself on a Gold Coast beach on Monday (August 8) was rescued and guided back out to sea. Rescuers dug a channel in the sand with excavation equipment and waited for the tide to come in. Aided by people on two jet skiis, the baby whale was gently coaxed back into the water. According to local media the 1500 kilogram (3,307 lb) whale, believed to be only two weeks, old had become separated from it's mother. Seaworld will monitor the calf for the rest of the day with hopes that it will be reunited with its mother.
