 GHQ attackers wanted to hold army officials hostage RAWALPINDI: The reason behind the GHQ attack has come to light. Geo News has revealed that Aqeel alias Osman in his statement before the military court said that the reason for the attack was to hold high-ranking army officials hostage. After taking the army officials hostage, the attackers would bargain for the release of 115 terrorists.

Osman said that Google Earth was also used in planning the attack and it took several months to finalise the strategy and bring weapons to Rawalpindi. Osman further added that reconnaissance was conducted for several months on roads leading to the GHQ.

The GHQ attack took place on October 10, 2009 and lasted for 18 hours. Nine terrorists were killed while Aqeel alias Osman was captured.
