PM launches global rain-relief appeal |
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Saturday called upon the international community to help Pakistan rehabilitate Monsoon-devastated Sidh province as the damages, this time around, are far greater than expected. Addressing the nation on TV, he summed up all the efforts made by the government and non-government entities to relieve hundreds and thousands of rained-out people. “President Asif Ali Zardari has launched an international flood appeal, as the government alone cannot cope with the massive destruction these relentless rains made this season”, He said. He encouraged the nation and expatriates living overseas to come forward in this hour of need and do as much relief work as they can in cash and kind. He said that government has allocated Rs7 billion for the rehabilitation. Prime minister Gilani showered kudos on provincial governments of Balochistan, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for their prompt relief activities for the rain victims of Sindh. |
