Desi Boyz: Lacks in its Script |
![]() The movie stars John Abraham and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles and is mostly centred on their antics. Also making a cameo appearance is Sajnay Dutt as the owner of a club which I find hard to define in words that won’t be censored. The movie makes a promising start but that’s all it has to offer. It goes from boring to, I need to pinch myself to stay awake and complete the movie so my money doesn’t go to waste. Kumar and Abraham do deliver decent performances, but I am not convinced that the only roles they are capable of playing is that of middle aged frat boys. No one can doubt that Kumar has great comic timing and has made a living doing comedy films in Bollywood, but even he could not safe a horrible script. Abraham’s performance is also mediocre and he looks like he is being tortured during the movies dance sequences. The topic itself is quite serious in that it tackles the global recession and how it forced people out of their jobs. But seriously, how funny is it when people are unemployed? The movie would have been better off had it taken a more sombre approach to the recession. Deepika Padukone stars as the female lead along with some other actress whose name I don’t remember (mostly because she was that insignificant). Performances of both these actresses aren’t even worth mentioning. Desi Boyz, like all other Bollywood movies also has a human interest angle. In this case it is Kumar’s character that is trying to save his sister’s or brother’s (never really understood how the child was related to him) son from the social services. I won’t criticise the child but I do ask those reading the blog to comment below and let me know if the child was better off with a foster family (I thought he was! Most of those people seemed like they were well off, while Khanna’s character was well…let’s leave it at that). So the final verdict on Desi Boyz is, if you have nothing better to do then watch it. But if you are the kind that likes their movies to make a little sense, then this is right up your alley. |
