Pakistan to market agri products in Int’l Green Week

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to participate in an International Green Week (IGW) in Berlin, Germany, to showcase 15-fully traceable agriculture and livestock products, which will open doors of high-end markets of world leading towards generation of business opportunities.

Starting on Jan 19, IGW will host green products from worl dover till Jan 21, 2012.

Agriculture department sources said on Sunday that participation in the International Green Week would help present Pakistan as an emerging country of traceable products for the world to meet food supply demand of the ever increasing global population.

The government of Punjab has reserved a stall for display of selected products of private sector exhibitors, including mango pulp, potato, tomato, onion, cucumber, bell pepper, red chilies, basmati rice, parboiled rice, beef and mutton for the purpose, sources added. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved an incentive package of R 2 billion for supply chain improvement of selected agriculture and livestock products, sources added.

The package will be provided to growers, suppliers, logistic companies and traders/exporters as financial assistance for acquiring global GAP and International Featured Standards (IFS) certifications to produce fully traceable products. (APP)
